New Renault Duster 2026 Review: Price, Engines, Features and Who Should Buy It

The Duster name is back. And if you grew up in a small town in India, you probably remember the old one. It was the SUV that could take a bad road without complaining, and people loved it for that. The new 2026 Duster is a very different car though. It is bigger on tech, it has turbo petrol engines, there is a strong hybrid on the way, and it even gets ADAS.

So the real question is simple. Is the new Duster worth your money when the Creta, Seltos, Victoris and Sierra are all fighting for the same buyer?

Let’s go through it properly.

Renault Duster 2026 Price in India

Renault revealed the new Duster in India on 26 January 2026 and announced prices in March 2026. Ex-showroom prices start at Rs 10.49 lakh and go up to Rs 18.49 lakh across 11 variants. Buyers who pre-booked through Renault’s R-pass got slightly lower introductory prices, from Rs 10.29 lakh.

Detail Renault Duster 2026
Ex-showroom price Rs 10.49 lakh to Rs 18.49 lakh
Number of variants 11

Fuel options Turbo petrol, strong hybrid
Gearboxes 6-speed manual, 6-speed DCT, e-CVT (hybrid)

At the time prices were announced, Renault had not revealed the strong hybrid price. If the hybrid is what you want, ask the dealer for the latest price list before you book.

Engine Options Explained in Simple Words

There are three engines. Each one suits a different kind of buyer.

1.0-litre turbo petrol (100 hp)

This is the entry engine. It is a 3-cylinder unit making 100 hp, and it comes only with a 6-speed manual. This is the one that keeps the starting price close to Rs 10.5 lakh. It should be fine for city use and relaxed highway trips with family. If you load the car fully and drive in the hills often, you may wish it had a little more pull.

1.3-litre turbo petrol (163 hp)

This is the enthusiast’s pick. 163 hp is a lot for this segment, and you can get it with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT automatic. On paper, this engine puts the Duster right up against the turbo versions of the Creta and Seltos. If you do a lot of highway driving, this is the engine to test drive.

1.8-litre strong hybrid (160 hp)

This is the most interesting one. It combines a petrol engine with an electric motor and a small 1.4 kWh battery, and it uses an e-CVT automatic. Renault claims the car can run in pure electric mode for up to 80 percent of the time in city driving. That claim will depend a lot on traffic and how you drive, but strong hybrids in general do give much better city mileage than normal petrol cars.

Features: What You Get Inside

Renault has clearly worked hard on the cabin. Some of the highlights:

  • 10.1-inch touchscreen with built-in Google
  • 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
  • Electric panoramic sunroof
  • Powered tailgate
  • Wireless phone charging
  • Six-way powered and ventilated front seats
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • 48-colour ambient lighting
  • Type-C USB charging ports

Built-in Google is a nice touch. You get Google Maps and voice assistant without always depending on your phone. The powered tailgate and dual-zone AC are features you usually see in more expensive SUVs, so it is good to see them here.

The boot is a strong point too. 518 litres is big for this class, and with the rear seats folded it grows to 1,789 litres. For families who travel to the village with a lot of luggage, that matters more than a fancy screen.

Safety and ADAS

This is where the new Duster has really moved forward. The safety list includes:

  • Six airbags
  • 360-degree camera
  • Parking sensors
  • Electronic stability control
  • Hill hold assist
  • Electronic parking brake with auto hold
  • ADAS (driver assistance systems), a first for a Renault in India

ADAS features like automatic emergency braking and lane assist can help on the highway, but they are not a replacement for an alert driver. Indian roads have cattle, two-wheelers coming from the wrong side and missing lane markings, so treat ADAS as a helper, not a chauffeur.

At the time of writing, we don’t have a Bharat NCAP crash test result for the new Duster to share. Check for an official rating before you buy if safety is your top priority.

Pros and Cons

What we like

  • Strong engine lineup, especially the 163 hp turbo petrol
  • Strong hybrid option for high mileage city use
  • Big 518-litre boot
  • Feature-rich cabin with built-in Google, powered tailgate and ventilated seats
  • ADAS and 360-degree camera

What could be better

  • No diesel engine, which some highway users will miss
  • The 1.0 turbo comes only with a manual
  • Renault’s service network is smaller than Maruti, Hyundai or Tata
  • Strong hybrid price not announced at launch

Renault Duster 2026 vs Rivals

The Duster has a long list of competitors: Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris, Tata Sierra, Toyota Hyryder, Honda Elevate, VW Taigun and MG Astor.

Here is a quick price comparison with the most popular ones (ex-showroom):

SUV Starting price Top price
Renault Duster Rs 10.49 lakh Rs 18.49 lakh
Hyundai Creta Rs 10.91 lakh Rs 20.14 lakh
Kia Seltos (new) Rs 10.99 lakh Rs 19.49 lakh
Maruti Victoris Rs 10.50 lakh Rs 19.99 lakh
Tata Sierra Rs 11.49 lakh Rs 21.59 lakh

The Duster’s top variant is cheaper than the top versions of all four rivals above. That is a strong argument if you want a fully loaded SUV without crossing Rs 20 lakh ex-showroom.

Should You Buy the New Renault Duster?

Buy it if you want a well-equipped SUV with a big boot, you like a punchy turbo petrol, and you live in a city where Renault service is easy to reach.

Think twice if you want a diesel, or you live somewhere the nearest Renault workshop is far away. In smaller towns, a Maruti or Tata service centre is usually much closer, and that makes ownership easier.

Our suggestion: test drive the 1.3 turbo DCT and, once it is available near you, the strong hybrid. Then decide based on how you actually drive. A lot of city running points to the hybrid. A lot of highway running points to the turbo.
